We just ordered a new raku kiln for the studio. It is a beauty...an updated version of the one I bought 10 years ago and have fired hundreds and hundreds of times: The Clamshell raku kiln from Clay Art Center in Tacoma Washington. This is what it looks like:


The beauty of this kiln is that one person can do it alone, the heat goes up but you can unload from the side, you don't have to reach into anything, and that you can open one side at a time to conserve heat.
I have fired in many of different raku kilns while doing demos and teaching workshops around the country. This is the best one I have found.
We should get it within a couple of weeks and have decided that the first couple of loads that we fire will become the "paying for the kiln sale". We will take pictures and have an event. Watch for details!
